Current BDO No2 Robbie Green today gave us a small insight into life on the circuit. Fresh from his win at the Scottish open Robbie was more than happy to give an interview for the BDO Darts Players Forum.?Q. In January 2008 you made the switch to the BDO with your first tournament being the Scottish open in February – 3 years on and you are now the winner. How much does it mean to you winning the Scottish Open??A. It means a lot, Its one of the big ones on the tour that everyone is out to win, its cat A points and that helps a lot filling your 10 boxes with big points when it comes to getting to lakeside.?? Q. One of the largest opens on the calendar – The crowds at the Scottish open really add atmosphere during the floor games – do you feel that being so busy is what gives the Scottish open its character or do you think there is room to improve??A. It’s a great atmosphere and yes the crowds help make it what it is.In my 1st game the lad I played had a lot of support and they booed me when I won. It wasn’t meant in a nasty way, in fact a lot of them kept stopping me over the weekend and asking how I was getting on and wishing me luck...last year when they split it up it just wasn’t the same this year it was back to normal with the crowds and the atmosphere I love it...few tables and chairs wouldn’t go a miss and less gammon counters as I find it hard to pass them without stopping for a gammon bap ha ha ha.? ?Q. Currently No 2 in the BDO Invitation table – just 18 points behind Dean Winstanley – 2011 has started on a high – What drives you to get to the top??A. Dean has been playing well last year and he has brought it into this year. He has handled it very well. I’ll be out to catch him at the top. 18 points isn’t a lot if he don’t pick up in a comp and I can win it - but at the same time if i don’t pick up I can be caught by others. I don’t really bother to much with tables at this stage as it will change a lot...it would be nice to go lakeside as number 1 that’s for sure....? ?Q. Martin Adams v John Walton was a classic at the world championships earlier this year. Is there a player that you have not yet met in a competition who you would really like to face? ?A. I think I’ve played them all at some point. I’ve been around a while lol...I’d like to face any of them, IN THE FINAL? ?Q. There is a lot of fresh talent out their making their way through the ranks – Anyone stand out that you can think of?A. Young lad from Stoke Jake Jones. I’ve known Jake and his family a while and I’ve watched him progress the last 4-5 years and he is turning into a great player,?I think you will all be hearing a lot of Jake in the future....? ?Q. Do you think Jamie will one day beat his dad – in a competition??A. Yes - he struggles against me when we meet in competition but when we practice he wins a lot of legs, he came close last year in one and at 3-3 I took 11 an 12 darters out to beat him 5-3;?Q. Robert Jr was born earlier this year; it must be tough doing the circuit spending so much time away from your family. Do you feel that this adds extra pressure on you during a game? Do you try to take your family with you whenever possible??A. Yes Ruth an Robert will come when possible. I missed them so much when I was in Holland as Robert was 1 week old and had been in the special baby care unit for a couple of days. I struggled to focus over there coz I knew I should of been at home helping Ruth but this is the horrible side that people don’t see. They think we just turn up and play darts, your head needs to be right and i’m much better when they are with me, look at Scotland...?Q. When growing up most boys would love to play football for their country – Being picked for the England squad – how does this feel??When i came back the BDO this was my aim, to get in that England team, when you look at who has put that famous red and white shirt on it makes you feel so proud. I remember the late Pauline Stafford ringing me to tell me I’d been picked and i nearly dropped my phone. I love playing for my country and I’m lucky to represent the best country in world darts. One regret is my mum and dad never got chance to see me do it. I’ve a red rose tattooed on my neck with mum and dad through it and that’s for them every time I play for England. All through my school life I was told I’d never amount to anything, so playing for England would have made them both very proud.? ?Q. Being a supporter of the greatest football team on the planet – what are your views on the recent transfers.?A. I’m chuffed king Kenny is back. Great move by the club...Torres was a good player for us but we got a good deal for him. The new lads coming in look to be good signings, time will tell. We need to build and now we have the right man to build the club. For me Kenny is the most important signing this season.?
