With the beak from county until September there are a few major tournament weekends coming up we have Brean Sands Selsey Granite city open so good luck to all who will be attending. Will let you know the results in my next column.
London held their Gold Cup qualifiers on Sunday 5th June and representing London at lakeside will be for the ladies Clare Bywaters (Battersea) ladies parings will be Hayley Plume (Battersea) Kerry Simmons (plumstead) and for the men it is Jimmy Foster (Clapham) and the men’s pairing off Father and son Paul and George Killington (Hackney) good luck to you all.
I did not attend the Welsh open this year for various reasons, however once again I was told it was a well organised tournament. Congratulations to Deta Hedman and Ross Montgomery on winning the respective titles.
Onto the Foots Cray Open which also had a superb turnout from the ladies and the men’s, Tammy Mackenzie took the ladies title and Richie Howson took the men’s title well done to you both.
Also the Harlow Open this month was won by Peter (snakebite) Wright and the ladies winner was Donna Russell well done to you both.
The Sheppey Classic was won by Richie Howson who is wining some big comps at the moment keep it going the Owl and the ladies singles went to Donna Rainsley
The London super league has finally finished and congratulations to the Edmonton Ladies who finished top of the super league and Battersea who finished in second position, Congratulations to Welling who finished top of the London Men’s super league and Clapham finished in second place. Good luck to both the men’s and ladies in the champion’s cup.
The George McGovern Memorial Singles League has finally come to a finish and top of the Gold Group table is Alan Hardy played 18 games and 148 points in second position was Jimmy Foster played 19 on 146 points joint 170 winners were Luke Langley and Jimmy Foster and least darts were by Kevin Haste with a 11 dart leg only just pipping Jimmy as he had a 12 dart leg. Jimmy had a total of 22 180s throughout the season and in second place was Steve Jarrold on 15. Well done to Tom Burns who won the Silver group in the McGovern league and in second place was Jason Hogg who just missed out by 1 point.
Well done to everyone who played in the league and who supported this league in George’s memory I shall inform everyone when the forthcoming winter league will commence and I do hope that when it starts that the players will abide by all the rules and keep up with their games.
Congratulations to Tony Andrews on winning the Open Singles at the St Peters Club Knockout, Tony picked up £200 Lewis Venes picked up £100 in the ladies Kim Nicholls won the ladies singles well done, thanks to Jane Johnson Tricia Wright Doreen and Brian Jane and Richard and everyone else for all their help on the day. Let’s hope we see a few more new faces next time and let’s make this a great monthly tournament.
The next competition at St Peters will be held on Sunday 10th July the address is Bishopsford Road Social Club, Carshalton, Surrey SM4 6BH (rear of St Peters Church). They have agreed to set up monthly knockouts from that venue - the club has spacious room and at least 10 darts boards; hot and cold food will be on offer all day long - they also have Sky sports for the football enthusiasts. Many players in and around Surrey know where this venue is so we hope to see you all there for the next one and we do hope that you will pass this info around to everyone concerned. Doors open 11.30am Open pairs register from 11.30am -12.45 £8.00 money in money out. Open Singles £7.00 best of 7 - 501 pay-outs will be down to quarter finalists and furthest lady depending on entrants there will also be a Ladies competition if enough ladies turn up which will be money in money out. Future dates will be 21st August 2011, 25th September 2011, 23rd October 2011, 27th November 2011, and 18th December 2011.
